Companies Team to Showcase Industry’s First Public Demonstration of an OS Booting from a USB 3.0 Hard Drive
InsydeH20 UEFI BIOS Adds Support for xHCI 1.0 Specification
Release date: 20th October 2010
TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Insyde Software, a leading provider of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) based firmware and Fresco Logic, a global fabless semiconductor company that develops and markets USB3.0 connectivity solutions today announced a partnership in support of the companies respective USB 3.0 and xHCI 1.0 solutions. During the Insyde-hosted “10-in-10 Computing Conference” held in Taipei on Friday, October 15, 2010, Insyde Software and Fresco Logic unveiled a unique product demonstration of booting a modern operating system from a USB 3.0 hard drive. The demonstration highlighted the latest InsydeH2O UEFI BIOS support for xHCI1.0 and Fresco Logic’s FL1009 SuperSpeed USB Host Controller.
The extensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) is the newest host controller standard that provides improvements in speed, power efficiency and virtualization over its predecessors. The specification is developed and released by Intel to the industry with the goal of defining a new USB host controller.
Fresco Logics’s new FL1009 USB 3.0 host controller is based on its patented GoXtream™ Accelerator Engine and supports the xHCI 1.0 specification, released in May 2010. FL1009 has demonstrated, on various occasions, impeccable compatibility and performance relative to competitors when tested for both storage and transfer of uncompressed 1080p video, reaching 370MB/s and 350MB/s respectively.
"Being an active participant and key contributor to the development and completion of the xHCI specification since 2008, Fresco Logic leads not only on the technical aspects, but in our ability to deliver maximum performance with minimal power consumption," said Robert McVay, Chief Technology Officer, Fresco Logic. “To have a UEFI industry leader like Insyde supporting xHCI 1.0 is further evidence that USB3.0 has reached maturity and is ready for widespread adoption,” added McVay.
"Fresco Logic is a strategic partner of Insyde for USB 3.0," said Kevin Davis, VP of Engineering, Insyde Software. “Collaborating with Fresco Logic in support of the xHCI 1.0 specification ensures that our mutual customers will be able to fully leverage the FL1009 solution without adding engineering overhead or development time to their design,” added Davis.
